Smith-Miller + Hawkinson is a New York City architecture and design studio. Henry Smith-Miller began private practice following a seven year association with Richard Meier and Associates. The studio was established in 1983 after Laurie Hawkinson received her Professional Degree in Architecture from the Cooper Union. Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects have received numerous awards: the American Academy of Arts and Letters Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize in Architecture, the NYC AlA Chapter Medal of Honor and a NYC Chapter AlA Merit Award for The Dillon.

The studio’s work derives inspiration from an ongoing investigation into the general culture of architecture, its history, and its complex changing relationship to society and contemporary ideas. Their process is transformative in the way it reinterprets basic programs, and negotiates traditional craft with vanguard techniques.

Nina Freudenberger graduated with a Bachelor’s in Architecture and BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. In June of 2009, she opened Haus Interior, a flagship retail space and design studio in the heart of Nolita, NYC. Haus Interior is a full-service interior design firm, offering design and decorating for private residences. Nina and Haus Interior were selected to be a part of Traditional Home’s 2011 Hamptons Showcase and were awarded one of “Trad Home’s “New Trad 20 Designers.” The design team will be featured on HGTV’s new show “Real Designing Women,” set to air in 2012.
